Framed Tapestry "the Return From The Gathering", Late 18th Century.
A small, late 18th-century tapestry depicting, within a large central medallion, a charming rural family scene of a return from flower gathering. A marquis and marquise, along with their young daughter, are accompanied by a small donkey. All three are very elegantly dressed. The fruits of their abundant harvest are gathered in baskets carried by the lady and the docile animal. A song is being sung amidst this wooded and flowery landscape, around a pretty house. Interlacing patterns, accompanied by coats of arms, form the medallion within a leafy border. This petit point tapestry is in very good condition, set in a molded and gilded frame, also from the late 18th century.
