In 1871, the artist visited Dutch museums and made numerous copies of Rembrandt (1606-1669) and Frans Hals (1580-1666). Roybet painted a significant number of costumed portraits: musketeers, lords, and mercenaries, executed with undeniable virtuosity (source: Bénézit Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors). Our painting is a fine example of the talent of a painter who mastered his genre. Wooden and stucco frame decorated in a gilt-like style. Good condition. 1200 euros.
