Set Of 6 Mahogany Hot Air Balloon Chairs, 19th Century
A set of six beautiful Louis XVI style Cuban mahogany chairs with balloon-back designs, dating from the first half of the 19th century. They rest on four tapered legs with fluted moldings, terminating in gilt bronze sabots and a sculpted flower at the top. These very comfortable chairs feature newly restored springs and fabric. The elegant, openwork backs, in a distinctive "hot air balloon" shape, are beautifully molded and finely sculpted with ribbons intertwined with pearls and a fan motif at the top. A unique feature of these backs is their slight curve (not flat, see profile photo), which gives them a very elegant and comfortable appearance. The chairs are in perfect condition, French polished, and very sturdy.
