View Of Edinburgh Castle In Scotland. 19th-century Pencil Drawing.
This early drawing, by an anonymous artist, offers a historical view of Edinburgh's most iconic landscape in Scotland. Edinburgh Castle, firmly perched atop Castle Rock, dominates the scene. The massive ramparts, various towers, and military buildings are clearly visible. At the foot of the rock, the city unfolds with its medieval architecture: in the foreground, typical Old Town houses can be seen. They feature steeply pitched roofs, crow-stepped gables, and tall chimneys, characteristic of the period. To make the composition more vibrant, the artist has added traces of daily life in the city: carts carrying barrels, and figures in period costumes. A sign on one of the buildings indicates the presence of an inn, "The White Stables." Mid-19th century. Graphite drawing on paper, 24 x 20.5 cm. Frame size: 37 x 34.5 cm.
