Relic Of Josephine De Beauharnais – Lock Of Hair – First Empire – Napoleon I
Rare Napoleonic Relic - Josephine's Hair. Presented in its oval giltwood frame with domed glass, this authentic lock of hair belonging to Empress Josephine de Beauharnais, Napoleon I's first wife, is an exceptional piece of imperial history. It comes directly from the collection of General Henri-Gatien Bertrand, Napoleon's loyal companion, who accompanied him to Saint Helena and kept many personal mementos of the imperial family (document attached). This item was offered at auction in 1989 as lot number 113 in the sale of "General Bertrand's Historical Memorabilia" (proof attached). The lock itself is 9 cm long. It has been held in place since that time on a piece of paper inscribed "Hair of the Empress Josephine." A rare opportunity to acquire an intimate relic of the Empress of the French.
