Solid Silver Sauce Boat – France, 19th Century
An elegant solid silver sauce boat resting on its matching stand, in a shuttle shape, adorned with a finely drawn spout and a stylized zoomorphic handle evoking a bird's head. The whole piece presents a fluid and balanced line, characteristic of fine French silverware from the second half of the 19th century. The body and the base are highlighted by a continuous chased frieze decorated with stylized motifs, bringing relief and refinement to the whole. The sauce boat rests on a centered circular foot, ensuring stability and elegance on the table. The piece is made of solid silver of the highest standard (950/1000), as attested by the Minerva 1st standard hallmark. Weight: 644 g. The maker's mark is present but illegible, preventing certain identification of the silversmith. A very beautiful table object, both decorative and functional, illustrating the craftsmanship of 19th-century French silversmithing.
