Rotating Tripod Lectern With Double Lyre Decoration. Mid-19th Century.

Artist: J. Chastel
The upper section, with its double lyre-shaped display stand, rotates around a wooden axis ending in a turned finial. This cylindrical axis fits into a finely turned shaft, and an internal rack with a push button allows for height adjustment of the lyres. At this point, a round wooden cup, stamped "J. Chastel," joins the axis to the turned shaft. The entire piece rests on a gracefully curved tripod base. A fine walnut lectern, dating from the mid-19th century, in its original condition.
