Louis XVI Pedestal Table Signed Gervais Durand (1839-1911), 19th Century

A superb Louis XVI pedestal table in mottled mahogany, encircled by a gilt bronze gallery and topped with a blue Turquin marble slab. It opens with a deep drawer in the frieze. The legs, adorned with chased and gilt bronze mounts, are joined by a blue Turquin marble stretcher and fitted with bronze casters. The oak frame bears the stamp of G. Durand under the top. G. Durand was a cabinetmaker born in 1839 who trained with Beurdeley and Dasson. Gervais Durand established himself in Paris, first on Rue de la Cerisaie, then on Rue Beautreillis, and finally in the Hôtel de Sully. He designed and crafted his own furniture. In 1889, he participated in the Universal Exhibition and received a silver medal. Dimensions: H: 75.5 cm D: 82 cm
