Large Beer Pitcher In Salt-glazed Stoneware And Pewter, Germany, Westerwald Type
Superb large stoneware pitcher with a salt glaze, handcrafted in Germany (Westerwald type) or Alsatian (Betschdorf type), unsigned, early 20th century. The lid is inscribed with the hand-engraved mark 1914, likely the date of manufacture or acquisition. It has a lovely baluster shape, a wide cylindrical neck, and a small, elegant handle. It is closed by a hinged gray pewter lid, beautifully crafted. The body is decorated with highly detailed floral and vegetal reliefs, friezes, and geometric motifs, against a light blue-gray background with cobalt blue details. A very beautiful decorative object, suitable for a collection or table setting. It measures 38.5 cm in maximum height with the lid and is approximately 16 cm in diameter. In very good condition, with some minor oxidation on the metal of the lid, but overall impeccable. There is slight deposit in the reliefs and on the base of the lid, near the top of the handle. Approximately 1.2 kg.
