Pair of candlesticks with putti, Louis XV style, after Meissonnier – 19th century. Magnificent pair of candlesticks in chased and gilded bronze, featuring charming figures with a brown patina that creates a striking contrast. Description: Resting on a tripod base adorned with rocaille scrolls, each putto supports a torchère composed of scrolls and foliage. The whole is surmounted by a finely crafted, rotating candle holder. The richly decorated pieces display a repertoire of acanthus leaves, projecting moldings, and volutes blossoming on console feet. Designed to be mirrored, these putti form an asymmetrical pair with dynamic poses. This exquisitely crafted piece would make a superb table or desk ornament. It embodies all the artistic power and symbolic fantasy characteristic of the Louis XV Rococo style. Dimensions: Height: 23 cm Base: Width 14 cm Depth 15 cm Condition: With excellent chasing and in very good condition, superb original matte and glossy gilding reminiscent of 18th-century gilding, beautiful brown patina with some signs of wear and age. Provenance: Parisian Private Collection. Parisian work circa 1880 (19th century). The design of these candlesticks is attributed to the goldsmith and ornamentalist Juste Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). Comparative bibliography: H. Ottomeyer and P.
