Emile Gallé For Saint Clément Earthenware Trinket Dish With Heraldic Lion
Artist: Emile Gallé
Rare Saint Clément earthenware trinket tray, marked on the reverse in blue lettering, designed by Emile Gallé, Heraldic Lions series, late 19th century. This is a rare model consisting of a scalloped tray supported by a lion, with the motto of the city of Nancy surrounding a thistle under a crown, painted in the center of the tray: Non Inultus premor - qui s'y frotte s'y pique (He who rubs against it gets pricked). Good condition, some minor enamel flaws and a small restoration, probably of a chip on the reverse of the tray. Any questions welcome.
