Bartholomeus Spranger (born March 21, 1546 in Antwerp, died August 1611 in Prague) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman, and engraver of the late Mannerist period.

He was the son of a wealthy merchant. He studied with the Antwerp masters Jan Mandyn, Frans Mostaert, and Cornelis van Dalem. Around 1565, he traveled to France (Lyon, Paris) and then to Italy (Milan, Parma, Rome), where he worked for Cardinal Farnese and Pope Pius V. His Italian collaborators included the brothers Federico and Taddeo Zuccaro. In 1575, he became court painter to Emperor Maximilian II, and later to his successor, Rudolf II, in Prague. In 1602, he traveled to Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Haarlem.

He created primarily mythological and allegorical compositions. He also created wall paintings and altarpieces. His works are characterized by sophisticated eroticism, refined elegance of poses and gestures, elongated proportions, and Mannerist color schemes. He was influenced by Frans Floris, Parmigianino, and Correggio. His works were popularized thanks to the prints of Hendrik Goltzius. Karel van Mander included a biography of the artist in his work The Schilder-Boeck (Haarlem, 1604).
