Dan Mask Ivory Coast
Dan mask. Although the Dan people have hundreds of different masks, this is a fairly classic example of the style, with a very figurative and finely rendered face. It is made of hardwood which, after being carved, is soaked in a decoction of sacred leaves (which then rot) to obtain a very dark brown, almost black, hue. Mask at the MET with same patina => MET DAN
