Japanese Punch Bowl From Arita Ovens.
A superb, very old Japanese punch bowl made in the Arita kilns, with this iron-red color. The hand-painted decorations depict a sage and his disciple in a floral setting inside the bowl. These two figures are also represented on the outside of the bowl in a pose of contemplation or meditation, their hands clasped in monastic robes. Banana leaves adorn the base of the bowl. An old, illegible signature is present. There are age-related cracks and a split at the base. In some places, traces of gold paint are still visible.
