Small wall hangings depicting the four Chinese celestial animals also known as the "Four Powers". These symbols represent the four cardinal directions and their specific functions in the Chinese constellation. These are considered positive figures, entrusted with the role of guardian of harmony and order within the heaven/earth system in China. The celestial dragon (Qinglong) to the east, the black tortoise (Xuanwu) to the north, the white tiger (Baihu) to the west, and the vermilion bird (Zhuque) to the south. Panel dimensions: 95 x 92 cm. This panel has seen some wear and tear and shows imperfections in the fabric; however, the celestial animals embroidered in gold and colored thread are in good condition.
