Sealing Stamp (seal/mark) With A Silver Figure - France - 18th Century
An elegant solid silver wax seal dating from the 18th century, composed of an engraved circular die and a sculpted handle. The die features a coat of arms with three fleurs-de-lis, arranged two and one, surrounded by a rich decoration of foliate scrolls and surmounted by a stylized heraldic motif, demonstrating fine and meticulous engraving. The handle is adorned with a small standing figure, dressed in 18th-century style, resting on a gadrooned circular base. The figure, rendered in a charmingly naive manner, also serves as a handle, with a ring at the top for suspending the seal. A beautiful object of both function and prestige, combining administrative or private use with decorative quality, characteristic of the goldsmithing and heraldic art of the Ancien Régime.
