Commode by Charles CRESSENT, Louis XV period, circa 1725-1735
Commode in satinwood veneered in a herringbone pattern, with a serpentine front and sides. It opens to reveal four drawers in two rows. The marble top (restored) rests on pinched and curved uprights terminating in cabriole legs. It is adorned with gilt and chased bronze mounts, including drops, keyhole escutcheons, and claw feet. An ink mark reads: V. (under the marble). The bronze mounts are marked with a crowned c (1745-1749).
