The Melon And Grape Eater, Hst 19th
Artist: Murillo (d'après)
This 19th-century French School reproduction of a work by Bartolomé Murillo is a prime example. Murillo was one of the first European painters to depict scenes with young boys as protagonists, and even as the central theme. This canvas belongs to a series of popular genre paintings with a childlike theme, painted by Murillo between 1670 and 1675. Through an innocent scene, this theme reveals the sad and miserable condition of the young beggars who were so numerous in the streets of Seville at the time. Our painting measures 92 x 65 cm plus a 9 cm giltwood frame. (There are a few minor losses on the sides of the frame.)
