Cavalry Painting - Angeli
Oval-shaped oil painting - medallion format typical of 17th-century curiosity cabinets.
The scene depicts with great intensity a cavalry battle right in the middle of the action. In the foreground, a rider on a powerful white horse whose luminous coat catches the light magnificently, he charges and overcomes his opponent. In the half-light of the background, amidst the tumult and dust of battle, we can make out the head of a downed soldier.
The work is characterized by a lively, nervous touch and a dramatic play of chiaroscuro typical of early Italian Baroque. Presented in a large rectangular frame of later period stuccoed and gilded wood decorated with acanthus leaf friezes and gadroons.
