Torquato Tasso. Oil On Copper Cm. 20x17 Created By Alessandro Allori Around 1580.
Artist: Italiano
Torquao Tasso - Alessandro Allori - Interesting oil on copper portrait with original frame from the second half of the 16th century. The small painting, measuring 20x17 cm, can be considered contemporary with the life of the great poet, born in Sorrento on 11 March 1544, and died in Rome in 1595. The known engraving depicting the same image may have been made from this painting, preserved within its original frame still with the forged nails. This work is believed to have been created by a Roman painter around 1580. The small coat of arms at the top left of the painting, not being the coat of arms of the Tasso family, is the coat of arms of the painter, in place of his signature.
