Renaud De Vézins De Lévézou, Large Etching Of The Place Nationale De Montauban, Royal Square

A beautiful etching depicting the former royal square of Montauban, now the Place Nationale. It is described as having a double row of arcades. In the Middle Ages, it housed the merchants' guilds. The first row was for public circulation, the second sheltered the merchants' stalls. Each arcade was named after the goods or merchandise displayed: the drapers' arcade, the clogs' arcade, the wheat arcade, etc. Our etching is sold with a very fine frame adorned with a mat, and is signed in pen in the lower right corner "R de Vezins." Renaud de Vézins (René de Lévézou de Vézins) was born in 1882 and died on September 21, 1932, at the age of fifty, following a car accident. A regionalist painter and etcher, he was a student of Eugène Viala and the author of a series of twenty-two etchings illustrating castles. From the former Rouergue region, he was also a general councillor of Aveyron, mayor of Vézins and a company director.
