Attributed to Jacques Hitier. Pair of small side tables. Mid-20th century. Oak veneered top and drawer front, beech frame. Painted metal legs. Dimensions: height 60.5 cm; width 55 cm; depth 45 cm. Jacques Hitier was a French decorator and furniture designer born in 1917 in Paris and died in 1999 in La Frette-sur-Seine. He is described by Patrick Favardin as "one of the most endearing figures of the decorative arts scene in the second half of the 20th century." A decorative artist associated with the École Boulle, after the Second World War he specialized in creating industrial furniture for small communities and homes, which he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and the Salon des Arts Ménagers.
