Burma, Mid-20th Century, Traditional Theatre Puppet Head Representing A Woman.
An unusual and antique wooden puppet head from Burma, dating from the 20th century, depicting a plump, painted woman whose features are outlined in black paint to represent eyebrows, eyelashes, and makeup on her cheeks and lips. The eyes are made of glass, painted on the inside. This is a representation of the traditional "Yoke Thay Thabin" puppet theater. This very attractive piece comes from a fine private collection.
