Albert Cresswell (1879-1936) Portrait of a young woman and her daughter arranging a bouquet of flowers. Signed and dated 1903. Albert Cresswell, born in Paris, was a painter of mythological subjects, genre scenes, portraits, and landscapes. A student of Louis Boulanger (1806-1867), Luc Olivier Merson (1846-1920), and especially of Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1834-1912), born in Tournan-en-Brie, he was a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Académie Julian, considered one of the leading figures of academic art in France. He participated in the Paris Salon from 1880 to 1929, receiving several awards, including an honorable mention in 1892 and a third-place medal in 1907.
