Athenian Planter In Blackened Wood And Bronze, 19th Century, Napoleon III Period
An important jardinière or Athenian-style planter in blackened wood and gilt bronze, Napoleon III period, 19th century. The circular piece rests on three cabriole legs joined by a stretcher at the base. The upper circular section retains its zinc liner. The bronze mounts are decorated with winged cupids or putti holding bows and arrows, as well as satyr masks. Some plaques are probably missing from the stopper and the stretcher. Height 88 cm, diameter 38.5 cm
