JAPAN - Meiji Period (1868-1912). Complete samurai armor. KABUTO made of metal with eight riveted plates secured by large circular rivets. THEHEN NO ANA (opening at the top) made of gilded copper with four tiers. SHIKORO (neck guard) with two tiers, lacquered black and braided with purple and orange silk. FUKIGAYESHI (side wings) and MABI SA SHI (visor) decorated with stylized floral motifs. MAETATE depicting a straight sword blade pointing skyward, framed by two large gilded copper horns, the whole centered with a chrysanthemum. MEMPO (half-mask) made of black lacquered iron, with a pronounced chin, movable nose, pierced nostrils, a white horsehair mustache, and gilded teeth. YODARE-KAKE (gorget) with three tiers, lacquered black, the first decorated with stylized floral motifs, braided in pink and white silk. SODE (shoulder guards) with six tiers, lacquered black and braided in pink, white, and purple silk. DO (breastplate) in six sections, lacquered black and braided in pink silk, decorated in its upper section with the same stylized floral motifs. KOTE (arm guards) in chainmail and black lacquered iron plates. KUSAZURI (skirt) and HAIDATE (leg guards) with five rows, lacquered black and braided in pink, white, and purple silk. Good overall condition, additional photos and details available upon request. Sold with its black lacquered wooden carrying case (gusoku bitsu) and display stand. Dimensions of the armor in seated position: 146 x 58 x 54 cm. Notes: In Japan, samurai are commemorated every year; many people and temples often preserve such armor for generations.
