Benoît BLANC (1812-1862) Pastel representing a portrait of a young woman, Lydie Bordery, dated February 1855, restored by Dominique Roy Rousselet in 1994. From a noble family of Clermont-Ferrand 63. Dimensions (work): 48 cm x 40 cm / Dimensions (support): 58 cm x 48 cm. The painter Benoît Blanc or Benoni was born on March 21, 1812 in Gémenos (Bouches-du-Rhône), died in 1887. A painter of portraits and landscapes, he was admitted to the drawing school in Marseille at the age of eight. In 1832, he went to Rome where he worked under Horace Vernet before attending Ingres's lectures. He returned to Paris and devoted himself to portraiture, his main objective being to produce a good likeness. Among these portraits are those of Count Amédée de Forbin; Mr. Bérard; Admiral Bruat; and the Marquis de Tressemane. Sincerely, Philippe Verdier
