Mid-19th Century Painting Of The Interior Of The Bargello In Florence
Refined oil painting on canvas, framed in carved and gilded wood. The painting depicts a Renaissance-style interior scene, depicting the court of the Bargello, once the police headquarters and now an important Florentine museum. Among the architecture, depictions of fantastical animals and the lilies of the city of Florence can be seen. The stained-glass windows also depict two coats of arms, a reference to papal power and the city. In the portico, a figure, a soldier wearing period clothing and chain mail, can also be seen passing by. This is a well-preserved painting, appreciated for its skillful use of chiaroscuro, shadows, and stylistic rendering, capable of lending a touch of history and elegance to any space. The signature "Gelati" is also present at the bottom right of the painting, attributed to the famous Florentine painter Lorenzo Gelati (1824-1899), and therefore dated to around the mid-19th century.
