"The Pont Marie In Paris - Watercolor Signed Henri Bouvrie (1896-1973)"
Watercolor on heavy, stiff paper, signed lower right by Henri Bouvrie (1896-1973), depicting the Pont Marie in Paris. The label from the 1946 Winter Salon, where this work was exhibited, is found on the back of the cardboard on which the watercolor is mounted. The Winter Salon was an art exhibition held regularly in Paris between 1897 and 1950. The Pont Marie is a bridge spanning the Seine in Paris, France. It connects the Île Saint-Louis to the Quai de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, in the 4th arrondissement. The Pont Marie has been listed as a historical monument since February 10, 1887. From the website Le Lorrain: "He was born in Vertus in Champagne, but, being from Franche-Comté, he spent part of his life in Bar-le-Duc and exhibited extensively in the Nancy Salons and in some of the city's art galleries." His emotional connection to Lorraine is undeniable, and therefore we will consider him a Lorraine cousin. His name appears in the "Pays lorrain" in 1934 in Emile Nicolas' excellent article "Le mouvement artistique à Nancy" (The Artistic Movement in Nancy), in 1936, and again in a 1959 issue on the occasion of the Salon of "L'Union des artistes de l'Est" (The Union of Artists of the East).
