Abstract oil on canvas, dimensions 96 x 49 cm, signed lower right, dated '61' for 1961. Vera Freund (Véronique Freund) was a French-Hungarian artist, a member of the Jaschik School and OMIKE between 1935 and 1937. In 1944, she participated in the OMIKE group exhibition with two paintings, which she presented alongside Imre Ámos at the Keleti Károly Street Women's Association. At that time, she was still working in figurative painting. In 1947, she moved to Paris. Her work was compared to that of Vieira Da Silva in Parisian galleries. In Paris, she frequented many local artists, using their studios, and attended the École des Arts Décoratifs in Strasbourg. Her works are characterized by diverse technical experimentation, impulsive gestures, and paintings rich in nuances, with varied lines, textures, and depths. Her compositions lie at the boundary between abstract and figurative art. A recurring element in the monochrome palette of her early years was the color blue, which she enriched with ochre, red, and black in subsequent years.
