"Mahogany Cage Mantel Clock, Directoire Period, Regulator"
A Directoire period mahogany architectural cage clock, decorated with inlaid lozenges. The cornice is finely carved with a dentil. Parisian work signed by the clockmaker Radant, for Pierre Georges Louis Radant, who became a master in 1783 (Tardy). The dial bezel is gilt bronze, finely guillochéd with palmettes. The dial features Roman numerals and partridge-eye or Breguet hands. The mechanism has a wire suspension and a star-shaped count wheel, unaltered. The original sun pendulum retains its gilding. An old owner's inscription on the back reads "Mr. de Guerre." The mechanism needs servicing.
