"Trompe l'Oeil Portrait, 1848"
A trompe-l'œil portrait of two German children, painted and engraved in an overlayer. The two children are depicted in profile, playing typical games of the time. This small painting possesses undeniable aesthetic and sociological interest. The painting is signed with an engraved pen bearing the name "J. Morhardt." It was certainly a commissioned work. The back of the painting mentions the children's names and the date of execution: "Ludwig und Hermann Goehrs 1848." A rare and previously unknown small painting.
