Original oil painting on canvas depicting a still life with herring and pottery on a tablecloth. Painting by Pierre BECHON-SAUZEAU (1924-2006), a painter from Poitiers and a member of the Salon des Artistes Français, he received several awards in 1956: the SAF silver medal, the VH Lesur prize, the Young Painters prize, and was shortlisted for the Critics' Prize. The artist regularly exhibited his work in galleries. In 1956-57, under the direction of Jean Cocteau, he created the frescoes for the St. Pierre Chapel in Villefranche-sur-Mer and the murals for the wedding hall in Menton Town Hall. From 1971, the artist worked in television as a set designer, while continuing his career as a painter and exhibiting at the Galerie St Séverin in Paris in 1974, and in Rochefort in 1976, 1980, and 1986. He created numerous sets for the Opéra, the Lido, the Théâtre de la Madeleine, as well as for television and films by renowned directors such as Alain Resnais, Coline Serrault, and Roman Polanski. Several of his works are held in museums: the City of Paris, Rochefort, and Poitiers. This painting, with its bright and luminous colors, is highly decorative, depicting a scene of everyday life. Signed in the upper right corner and dated '50' for 1950, it is presented in a period wooden frame.
