"19th Century Inkwell By Lorenzo De' Medici After Michelangelo "
A superb and elegant 19th-century inkwell in marble and bronze. It rests on four ball feet supporting a shaped and molded black marble top. On this top are two pen rests and two baluster-shaped inkwells with finely chiseled lids. In the center is a bronze sculpture of Michelangelo's (1475-1564) famous statue of Lorenzo de' Medici, Duke of Urbino, known as the Magnificent. This sculpture is based on Michelangelo's marble version for the tomb of Lorenzo II de' Medici in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence. Both the sculpture and the inkwells are gilt bronze, a high-quality piece in perfect condition and highly decorative, with the contrast of bronze against the black marble.
