Superb and elegant small living room furniture in rosewood veneer from the 18th century. It rests on 4 casters topped by 4 arched legs connected by a crotch shelf at the bottom. Drum-shaped, the furniture opens on the front with 3 drawers, the top one of which forms a sliding writing desk and includes small boxes. The whole is topped with a gray veneered marble and encircled by a gallery openwork with trefoils. The furniture bears the stamp CM MAGNIEN for Claude-Matthieu MAGNIEN (1741 - October 15, 1829) - Cabinetmaker. Paris. Master on April 17, 1771. He worked successfully until under the Empire. Towards the end of the reign of Louis XVI, this manufacturer carried out some work for the furniture of the Crown. He settled on rue du faubourg-Saint-Antoine, under the sign of the "Name of Jesus" where he worked, successfully, until the beginning of the 19th century. His production includes Transition style furniture and mainly Louis XVI style furniture. His varied and elegant works, (chests of drawers, backgammon tables, chiffoniers, secretaries, dressing tables...) are made of mahogany or rosewood decorated with marquetry with regular patterns. Towards the end of the reign of Louis XVI, the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne commissioned some works from him, including a chest of drawers intended for the Princess of Lamballe for her apartments in the Château de Fontainebleau.
