View of Beynac
Oil on canvas mounted on wood
H. 27.5 cm; W. 22 cm
Circa 1930
Charles Arquinet seems to have left very few traces behind him… A few works, mostly landscapes, but no dates or places of residence, no discernible artistic trajectory. In 1924, he executed a series of large decorative panels for a private mansion, depicting still lifes.
Our canvas, later mounted on panel, is a view of Beynac taken near the Hôtel Bonnet, at the entrance to the village, following the course of the river. This very luminous, vertical work highlights the imposing presence of the fortress overlooking the village and its surroundings.
