Musical Instrument, Ethiopian Drum - Africa
The musical instrument, called Nagarit, comes from the Amhara region in northern Ethiopia.
Its solid and heavy structure is made of wood. Two leather panels are stretched and connected by straps. A leather handle allows for carrying. This drum was used during wars or the proclamation of an edict. It is in very good condition and has a remarkable patina from use.
A similar example is recorded in the collections of the Musée du quai Branly under inventory number 85.22.119.
