"Personification Of The New World, Hermes With Ionic Capital, Carved Wood, 18th-19th Century"
A small decorative carved wooden piece depicting a personification of the New World in the form of a Native American with a mustache, a feathered headdress falling over his shoulders, and traditional clothing. The figure is in an architecturally supportive position, assuming the function of an ancient terminus, his head surmounted by the characteristic scrolls of an Ionic capital. The physiognomy is full of character, and the patina is beautiful. An object in excellent overall condition, datable to the 18th or early 19th century.
