Large portrait carved in white marble, signed G. Tonnini and dated 1929. Italy, first half of the 20th century.
Elegant round sculpture in white marble, depicting the bust of a young woman in an idealized style, with a gentle face and contemplative gaze. The work, signed on the edge “G. Tonnini 1929”, is accompanied by an inscription engraved by the commissioner in dedication to his daughter Luisetta, in memory of her mother's virtues and as a sign of deep affection. The phrase, with its poetic and intimate tone, gives the piece a strong emotional and symbolic value.
The portrait is carved with great attention to facial features and a soft rendering of volumes, especially in the wavy hair, slender neck, and the modulation of the facial planes, in line with the classicist taste of the period.
The roundel is presented on its original solid wood easel, an integral part of the work, which enhances its sculptural and museum-like character.
Excellent condition, with intact marble and a well-preserved natural patina. A work of great portrait intensity, ideal for collectors of early 20th-century Italian sculpture or evocative interior settings.
