"Art Deco Style Brooch In Platinum And 18-carat Gold, Diamonds – Maison Leysen, Brussels "
Art Deco style brooch in platinum and 18-karat gold, diamonds – Maison Leysen, Brussels. Description: This important Art Deco style brooch was created in the 1970s by Maison Leysen, a renowned Brussels jeweler. It is a Neo-Art Deco piece, typical of high jewelry production from the second half of the 20th century, faithfully reproducing the aesthetic codes of the 1930s. The construction combines an 18-karat gold backing with a platinum top, a metal traditionally used for setting diamonds due to its strength and chromatic neutrality. This gold/platinum combination, while historically used during the Art Deco period, also remains characteristic of high-end jewelry creations from the 1960s and 1970s. The design, highly graphic and balanced, is composed of tapered lines and rigid pendants, evoking the movement and lightness so dear to the Art Deco vocabulary. The visible face is set with 66 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 1.30 carats, complemented by 4 baguette-cut diamonds totaling 0.40 carats, perfectly integrated into the composition. All the diamonds are of very high quality, with stones graded VVS1 to VVS2, E to F color, offering remarkable brilliance and exceptional visual uniformity. The setting work is of great precision and testifies to the expertise of the Leysen workshops, with meticulous execution and excellent control of volume. The brooch is preserved in perfect condition, without any deformation or restoration, and is a very fine example of 1970s Art Deco-inspired high jewelry, at once elegant, wearable, and timeless.
