"Louis XVI Half-moon Commode – Stamped Cordier"
A beautiful Louis XVI period half-moon commode, stamped G. Cordier (Guillaume Cordier, master in 1784), crafted from rosewood and amaranth, featuring an architecturally designed facade with projecting sections and exquisitely elegant marquetry work in reserves and finely highlighted frames. It opens with three drawers in the front: a top drawer without a central rail, and two central drawers set within a slightly curved front, all surrounded by flat uprights adorned with chased gilt bronze mounts. On each side, two curved side doors provide additional storage, finished in the same harmonious combination of veneers and bronze. The top is surmounted by a molded, veined gray marble slab, perfectly conforming to the half-moon shape of the piece. The legs are tapered, fluted, and terminate in gilt bronze sabots.
