Napoleon III Style Writing Table in Marquetry and Gilt Bronze.
An elegant Napoleon III style writing table, resting on four turned legs joined by a serpentine stretcher, centered with a substantial gilt bronze decoration. The rectangular top with scalloped edges is richly decorated with marquetry of precious woods on a black ground, featuring scrolls, foliage, and symmetrical cartouches, executed with great finesse. It is highlighted by a finely molded brass gallery. The frieze opens to reveal a drawer in the front, also adorned with marquetry and fitted with a gilt bronze keyhole escutcheon. The whole is enhanced by finely chased gilt bronze: foot rings, sabots, and central ornament. High-quality cabinetmaking, characteristic of French furniture from the second half of the 19th century. A refined piece, suitable for use as a writing table, occasional desk, or side table.
