Ceremonial Table In Blackened Pear Wood, Napoleon III Period – Mid-19th Century

Violined ceremonial table in blackened pear wood, fully inlaid in the style of André-Charles Boulle's creations, opening with a large drawer. This drawer, with a mahogany interior, is equipped with an authentic lock with a rear key and entrance depicting an important Bacchus mask. The top is decorated with scrolls, foliage and acanthus leaves on a background of tortoise shells and surrounded by a large gadrooned bronze wand. The belt, animated and scalloped, is inlaid with identical decorations, also highlighted with chiseled baguettes. The sides, as well as the opposite face, are worked in the same way. This center table rests on four curved legs presenting devil's Spanish sticks on acanthus leaves. Each of these feet, which have fine bronze strips on the edges, ends in a small openwork shoe. This ceremonial table, an art piece par excellence, will enhance the room in which you choose to place it. André-Charles Boulle (1642-1732): visionary and avant-garde, André-Charles Bolt in civil status, is a French cabinetmaker, founder, engraver, gilder and designer. He revolutionized the art of decorating art furniture by specializing in the work of tortoiseshell and metal marquetry.
