"Bronze "the Zouave Trumpeter" By E. Carlier - Early 20th Century"
Bronze with medal patina by Émile Carlier (1849-1927), dating from the early 20th century. This work depicts a Zouave soldier playing a trumpet, with a rifle slung over his shoulder. Depicted in the heat of the action, the soldier wears the traditional Zouave uniform, characterized by baggy trousers and a short jacket. The sculpture rests on a base evoking rocky terrain, adding a realistic touch to the scene. This piece illustrates not only historical military art, but also Émile Carlier's attention to detail and artistic expertise. Émile Joseph Carlier (1849-1927) was a French sculptor who joined the studio of the sculptor Lecaron in 1864 and then entered the École des Beaux-Arts in the studio of Jules Cavelier in 1869. In 1874, he made his debut at the Salon and exhibited there for several years, obtaining the 2nd medal in 1879, then the 1st medal in 1883. In 1889, he won the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. After the 1st World War, he devoted himself to the sculpture of military figures to pay a poignant tribute to the combatants.*********Period: Early 20th centuryVery good condition.
