Kozak Anatolia Rug 203 X 94 Cm
Anatolian rug, wool, wool warp and weft, circa 1950-60. Very good condition.
Located in western Anatolia, the small town of Kozak is about twenty kilometers from the city of Bergamo (Western Turkey, Aegean region). The name "Kozak" derives from the word Kazak, a mountainous region encompassing Georgia and Armenia (Caucasus).
The design of this Kozak, composed of three medallions, is reminiscent of Kazak Caucasian rugs. Many Turkish rugs since the 19th century have been made by Armenians. This rug, on a red background, features a beautiful harmony of contrasting colors. The field of the rug incorporates zoomorphic ram's horns, as well as the 'S' motif, symbolizing a two-headed dragon. A warm and inviting rug, beautifully crafted.
