"Verrocchio Bronze "the Colleone" Equestrian Statue Of Condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni In Venice"
A bronze equestrian statue with a brown patina, depicting the condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni (1395-1475), known as "Il Colleone." A talented military leader, he forged a close relationship with Venice, which honored him by erecting the equestrian statue he desired. The renowned sculptor Andrea del Verrocchio (1435-1488), one of the most celebrated artists of his time, was chosen by "Il Colleone" to execute this work. With this piece, Verrocchio took on a true challenge, drawing inspiration from the ancient equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius and the classical style of his era, while imbuing it with a power, movement, and dynamism that foreshadowed the Baroque. This statue of Bartolomeo of Bergamo is his crowning achievement. The statue was installed in the Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice, opposite the Basilica of San Zanipolo, where it can still be admired today. Our high-quality bronze replica of this work can be considered an object from the Grand Tour undertaken by young men to complete their education, bringing back with them objects that had marked history and their journey...
