André Gambut was heir to a dynasty of 19th-century pottery artists (from Beaune, Châlons-en-Champagne, and Cluny) who worked with clay and glazes according to the methods established by Bernard Palissy.
He devoted four years to the disciplines of statuary and ornamental art necessary to obtain the diploma of Master Sculptor-Decorator, then he pursued for two more years courses in drawing, painting, and interior architecture necessary for his training as an Interior Designer-Decorator.
In parallel, he established a design office in 1955, and then in 1957 opened his studio in Le Creusot, where he presented his first exhibition, comprised of some twenty canvases and a few wooden sculptures.
Its success was a welcome encouragement. His passion for drawing and painting remained a constant priority. His encounter with Yves Brayer in Provence had an irreversible influence on him.
André Gambut exhibited in Paris, at the French Embassy in Washington in 1990, then on Broadway in 1994, in Vevey-Montreux, Switzerland, under the patronage of the French Ambassador, and in Besançon, Deauville, Vittel, Aix-en-Provence, Cannes, Chalon-sur-Saône, and elsewhere.
His career was crowned with numerous prizes and other distinctions.
