Great Athenian Woman, 19th Century
Large Athenian vessel in patinated black iron, resting on three feet terminating in winged lion heads. It is surmounted by a basin with gadrooned sides, a domed lid, and three handles. This three-footed model, in the classical style, is inspired by vessels discovered in Pompeii. Provenance: Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel, Germany.
