Army Courier's Shoulder Board Plate For Senior Official, 1st Republic.

Army messenger's belt buckle for a senior officer; First Republic. Oval silver buckle depicting the Republic holding the fasces with a Phrygian cap in one hand and the Tablets of the Law in the other; it is framed by cannons and oak branches against a background of a bundle of flags. The upper part features an eye against a radiant background, and the lower part a ribbon bearing the inscription "COURIER D'ARMÉE / GATTEAUX / NM". The buckle is bordered by a raised molding. Height 6.5 cm; width 5.6 cm; thickness 4 mm. The back has two illegible hallmarks. The buckle is complete with its four rear mounting tabs. France. First Republic. Very good condition.
