Painted porcelain, underglaze blue mark. Dimensions: D. 24 (cm). Fürstenberg, circa 1760. A very beautiful plate with a scalloped edge and a ribbed rim, decorated with raised scales and arabesques. Painted decoration of scattered insects and garlands of flowers. The center is adorned with two unidentified birds. The Fürstenberg factory: Founded in 1747 under the patronage of the Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, it is still the second oldest German factory still in operation. A similar plate can be found in the Kestnermuseum in Hanover, and is reproduced full-page in Fürstenberg Porcelain / II Geschirre / p. 178 by Siegfried Ducret. See photo.
